Manda-la Photography Project
5 ESK students took part in the photography project by Japanese photographer/artist Masahiro Usami. The European Capital of Culture Paphos 2017 invited Japanese photographer Masahiro Usami to Cyprus to observe the life of the people of Cyprus and to create large-scale photographs representing both the hopes and the success of the project "The Japanese Eye in Cyprus" the current socio-political situation of Cyprus through the artistic perspective of the artist. In particular, the project focussed on people directly related to the events of 1974, symbolizing their hope for reunification.
The series of photos by Masahiro Usami is called "Manda-la", as is the form of the Mandala Buddhist painting, which depicts the essence of space. A master figure is placed in the photo to represent its detailed life and environment.
The photographs were exhibited in Paphos at Hani Ibrahim and in Nicosia at the House of Collaboration.
The project is a collaboration of the European Capital of Culture Organization Paphos2017 and the EU-Japan Fest Organization with the House of Cooperation.
